Registration and Triage
The system supports multiple patient registration scenarios: Pre-Arrival (“Call-in”),
Quick Triage, Bed-Side Registration, External Registration, and more. The system
can be configured to accommodate any Registration/Triage process flow.
Patient Care Status and Location Tracking
The tracking screen of the system is designed so that any staff member,
at a glance, can find the information required for his/her specific duties. This
sharp, easy-to-read screen provides multiple views including “All Patients”, “Active
Patients”, and “Discharged Patients”, and can be sorted in any user-defined order.
Patient Status Flags: History, Orders, and More
A number of flags on the tracking screen help the ED staff throughout every
visit, telling them of previous patient visits, the status of placed orders, records
with incomplete information, certain types of insurance, whether a patient is ready
to be discharged, and much more.
Multiple Areas Tracking Support
In cases when the ED consists of several areas (for example pediatric and
adult care) tracking can be done separately for each area with common or separate
registration desks and centralized management.
Current Visit Information
The system automatically maintains a log for every visit where all activities are
recorded with timestamps and user codes. It’s a “black box” created for every visit
that never needs decoding—all the information is transparent and available for authorized
personnel, anytime, and in various forms.
Complete Previous Visits History
Every bit of visit information is securely stored in the system’s archive
database following patient discharge. The system will automatically recognize consequent
visits of the patient, providing a complete history of previous visits.
Orders and Results: Labs, Radiology, etc.
With complete bi-directional order entry interface support, placing and tracking
orders is a simple and efficient process. Orders’ results and status updates are
instantly accessible for care providers and notifications are sent to all electronic
boards.
Patient Pick-up Lists with Custom Sorting
The system features a high level of customization for many aspects of ED activities.
Picking up a patient by a doctor or a nurse is not an exception. Special “Pick Up”
lists are maintained separately in the system. Patients in those lists can be sorted
various ways based on the severity of their condition, custom flags defined by the
administration, or other factors.
Patient Alerts
The system continually monitors certain data elements of each patient in ED. When
certain preconfigured conditions are met the system will automatically generate
an alert. This information becomes instantly available on the tracking screen, during
the disposition process, and as part of the medical record.
ED Alerts and Notifications
The NWS/EDS Alert Engine monitors certain critical parameters of the system in 24/7
mode. These parameters can include the number of patients in the ED, the maximum
waiting time, the number of doctors online, the number of available rooms, etc.
Groups of personnel such as administration, doctors, nurses, or support can be associated
with each alert and will be prompted if a critical condition is detected.
Real-Time Statistics Panel and Status Bar
All parameters used by the Alert Engine as well
as those described above are available for system users in real-time. This allows
the ED staff to track down all the “bottlenecks” during the shift and eliminate
them before a real problem occurs.
Patient Care Protocols
This feature allows users
to make sure that the level of care for each individual patient meets the standards
set by the ED management team. It displays a checklist of everything that has to
be done for each specific patient along with patient care suggestions based on patient
parameters such as chief complaint, age, sex, diagnosis, etc. Protocols establish
a new, higher level of care and quality control, and track deviations in individual
patient care.
Built-in Standard Set of Reports
The system comes with a standard
set of reports which cover key information required for business processes and workflow
optimization. Users generate reports for specific needs by manipulating predefined
sections. The set of standard reports is distributed as a plug-in to the system,
making regular updates available in the form of a subscription with different options
or on demand.
User Query Constructor
This feature helps users to customize the standard
reports. Specific criteria can be defined using the report wizard. This powerful
feature allows for the creation of nearly any report imaginable.
Dynamic Room and Roll-In Bed Management
This feature allows staff to keep an eye on ED rooms in order
to use them most efficiently and to deal with overcrowding.
Streamlined Disposition Process
The system greatly improves the disposition process. Prescription writing,
discharge instructions and notes, final diagnosis, and follow-up procedures are
all accessible by a physician from a single disposition screen. After a doctor indicates
that a patient is ready for discharge, the discharge flag appears on the tracking
screen for a nurse. When a patient is discharged, the system provides staff with
the ability to assign different discharge types, including: Admitted, LWBS, AMA,
etc. Patients can also be placed in Holding or Observation until they leave the
department.
Multi-Hospital Data Center WAN Configuration
Hospital systems with multiple
hospitals are supported with Data Center configuration which creates an optimal
balance between centralized management and individual ED localizations. Support
for interfaces with multiple instances of the main HIS system is included with this
configuration. NWS/EDS architecture provides reliable performance over WAN.
Adaptive for Specific ED Processes
NWS/EDS can be used as a stand-alone system or can be interfaced with a
primary hospital information system via HL7 or another interface. The process is
customizable and supports multiple record merge strategies.
Highly Configurable System
NWS/EDS is customizable at different levels: installation, system, workstation,
and user. Individual user settings are stored automatically after being changed.
Customizable User Types and Access Rights
User types, groups, and access rights can be conveniently managed from the Administrative
module. The system comes preinstalled with a standard set of user types and groups.
New types and groups can be quickly created by the system administrator and access
to the system functions and sections of the electronic visit record can be controlled.
Biometric Login Support
Fast and secure login using fingerprint recognition devices provides the
highest level of security and patient information protection.
Internal User Messaging System
System users can exchange messages with other users or groups of users using a messenger
which is integrated into all of the modules. All messages are stored in the system
and archived.
Automatic Patient Location Tracking Plug-In
This optional feature requires the installation of additional RFID hardware
in the ED. This hardware, in conjunction with NWS/EDS, allows patients to be tracked
automatically within the covered area.
Data Extracts for Custom Reports
To ensure that system users can obtain any report needed, the system provides
a number of data extracts in various forms: text files, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets,
SQL scripts, etc. Based on those extracts, new custom reports can be easily generated
using your favorite reporting tools.
Secure Rx Scripts
Security features of the scripts include: blue security background; the
word "VOID" appears when script is photocopied; Erasure Protection - a white mark
appears when erased; a Ghostmark security mark on the back of each sheet which is
not visible on a copy; Warning Box - security features are listed in warning box
on reverse side of a script.
